When it comes to survival, there's no time for playing around. You need a blade that won't let you down, and the powerful Colombian Machetes® Sawback Machete from United Cutlery is that knife. Featuring a massive 18" full tang stainless steel beast of a blade, this machete can tackle whatever challenges and obstacles you encounter! The blade has a nonreflective black coating and powerful sawback serrations, and the rubberized injection molded handle gives you a secure grip. This incredible machete also includes a wrist lanyard and nylon belt sheath. You won't find another machete at any price that can get the job done better!
first off I honed the blade real sharp!!1 then went out to trim off some palm fronds of a fan palm that were hanging down in my face!! sounds like an easy fix!! I underestimated the sharpness of it now , I wanted to chop off the frond with a couple hits being they are real fiberious NOT like a soda bottleLol!! so I take a hard swing and the blade goes thru like it was butter the machete slips out of my hand hits the ground and bounces up striking my left leg!! OK !! now I have a cut on my calf about # inches long and a 1/2 in. deep with blood shooting out!! spent * hours in the emergency room the surgeon had a difficult time stopping the bleeding I received 17 stiches in my calf!! will get other two fronds cut off when feeling better!! what a great Machete will use more but more carefully!! I have bought 5 for sale to my friends in Puerto Vallarta! thank you!!
Just got this today. Almost cut myself getting it out of the sheath. Razor sharp all the way to the end. Good comfortable grip. The saw back looks like it's patterned after a regular tree trimming saw. Very nice. Can't wait to try both sides out on something. Or someone breaking in.
This is one serious piece of steel. Not only is it razor sharp, it's balanced well and has a great grip. Overall, I am extremely satisfied.
I really really love this Machete, well balanced and doesn't come out of your hand, and it was delivered well on time, great service, and would recommend this Machete for anyone wanting to down size your shrubbery ,works great
As soon as the first one I ordered arrived. I ordered another. The quality is great for the money.
This piece is an excellent choice for a multi-purpose blade. It is well-balanced about four inches in front of the grip. Long enough with sufficient weight to manage small trees and brush. Like any long blade, don't try to twist it if you get it stuck in a larger branch, just work it back out and be more careful, it is capable of building a good shelter frame out of smaller saplings and limbs. The steel seems to be a good balance for heavy blades, although I don't exactly know what the mix of UC8088 is. A proprietary mix by United Cutlery probably. Three inches of the tip needs more sharpening if you intend on the machete being used as a defensive blade. The main blade is excellent for camp use and has an edge angle that won't distort if you pay attention to what you're chopping and don't get sloppy. Before it arrived I thought the sawback would require a bit of modification in the handle. I was pleasantly surprised to see the sawback has "draw-teeth". That being the design, the grip is excellent for providing good purchase when drawing the sawback through a piece of wood. All in all this is an excellent camping or hiking outback blade. And at Budk it is about one-half the "MSRP" price. I'm pleased with it, and have owned other long knives that were not up to this multi-purpose design.
EVERYONE BUYS ITEMS TO SUITE THEIR NEEDS. I OWN THIS COLUMBIAN SAWBACK AND THE KUKRI TYPE WITH THE YELLOW HANDLES. EACH TIME I ORDERED, I GOT THEM ON BOGO SALES. SO I AM PLEASED ON BOTH ACCOUNTS! I HAVE NO PLANS FOR JUNGLE TRUDGING. THESE ARE MY PLAN B TOOLS AND NOTHING MORE. I CAN SHAVE WITH ANY OF THEM NOW I RAN THEM ON SOME GOOD DTEEL AND RAZOR STROP.NOT THAT I WOULD TRY TO, BUT YES THAT SHARP!
I live on the edge of the woods and do a ton of hiking and camping. This machete has been awesome. Sharp blade and the sawback is excellent. Great value!
This is a great generic machete for anyone to get. It has a very comfortable handle, a paracord lanyard and basic nylon sheath. I have not put it through its paces yet or hacked my way from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe with it so I cannot attest to its durability. I wouldnt consider it terribly heavy (I also ordered a Hibben Rambo 4), but I can see where a shorter length machete would be lighter.
I own a Barteaux 16" & United Cutlery 18" Sawbacks, and an Ontario non Sawback, machetes; all with hand / fist protection and wide belt loops. The Barteaux has a thin, flexible blade, stated to reduce / eliminate binding while sawing, with tanto point, stated as carefully useable as a survival shovel / spade, NO sheath nor any offered, nor cordage for handle hole. The Ontario sheath has no blade retention strap nor handle hole cordage. Other than, perhaps, a sawback cutting binding issue and sharpening, The United Cutlery Colombian Sawback Machete and sheath are well designed and produced. They are complete AS IS. My only recommendation is that, as it is heavy, perhaps United should seriously consider a shorter, lighter weight version that will fit into a backpack. Other than this, The Colombian will be my primary on belt machete, with the Barteaux as a packed backup. Should United produce my recommendation, it will replace the Barteaux.
I am very happy with the machete, it is sharp and holds a edge fairly well. The hand guard I really like, it protects your knuckles while you are working. Good knife at a good price.
I love this thing it is sharp as h**l. My wife on the other hand didn't like me trying this machete on the bushes but hey I had to try it :)
its better than i expected, well sharpen with a great handle, everything for a great price.
Surprisingly well made! The handle feels very comfortable and the blade itself is durable. The saw edge on the back is sharp and crossed/ patterned in a way that makes it an effective saw. It will need some sharpening to get the blade 'razor' sharp, but still a great product and worth buying.
I highly recommend this machete. The blade sharpens nicely and holds an edge decently well. The D-handle is great and it doesn't make using the saw blade difficult. The handle is solidly attached and it's not showing any signs of loosening.
best machete i ever had cant complain i used it non stop all day it never dulled out i think it should be longer though
I bought this item and i was surprised.I made trails in the mountains with it and cut down trees and etc.I highly recommend this knife.
I bought one of these as much for a bug out bag as wanting one for around the house. Carrying it on the hip is not going to be an option as I personally would be a bit bothered by this piece of steel hanging down my leg, but that is my preference, and nothing against the blade. Immediately fresh out of the box, I took it to my shop and began to punish it harshly just to see how it would hold up. It performed amazingly! While not a heavy blade over all, it has the weight it needs where it needs to be for chopping. I even tested the saw on a 2x4. It performed admirably. I would feel safe now removing my axe from my go bag.
Just got mine today. I'm very pleased. The blade is strong and was fairly sharp out of the box, it needs a few minutes with a wet stone. The grip fits the hand nice. I like the knuckle guard and it is why I chose this one. The sheath is even better then I had expected. But the saw tooth does hang up a little when drawing it out but I'll fix that. Great Machete, I strapped it to my Bug out Bag I hope I never have to use it.
I borrowed this machete from my neighbor to hack up a Christmas tree after Christmas, and I must say, it is a superb tool. The saw on the spine is fully capable and the hilt has a great grip to keep it steady in your hand while using it. Definitely a great knife for actual outdoor use. Planning on getting my own soon!
You want a perfect machete with a razor sharp sawback blade look no further this is amazing. I recommend it to everyone who understands the greatness of all weapons.
This machete is the best machete ever. It has a nice sturdy handle, sawback, and a nice long blade. Before my first order ever on BUDK, i read many reviews about blades being not very sharp on delivery, but that is no deal. I think that is better because then you spend quality time with your blades, to care for them and really get a feeling for what you have. Overall this machete is very great especially for the price, and even better razor sharp! Thanks again BUDK! and yes mine did come with a sheath.
my sawback is great......but did not have a sheath with it. 18in sawback machete. please send me one.
Awesome very impressed at the firmness of the make with the handle and very inexpensive for such an elaborate blade.
After serving 20 out of 24 years in the Armed Forces as a Jungle Warfare/Survival Expert, I can definitively say; this is one of the best machetes I have ever owned. After grinding the proper bevel on the edge, this thing holds it's edge for a very long time, being fairly easy to resharpen. The saw-back works great after you file the black coating away. I highly recommend this machete to anyone looking for a heavy duty blade intended for a lot of hard work.
I highly recommend this beast! It is sharp and does really hold it's edge. I cleared some brush and tree limbs and after 45 minutes it still held it's edge. It is the best machete that I've used, and I have a couple. 5 out of 5 for sure!!!
Very nice machete!! Extremely sharp blade. Handle is very comfortable. Saw works well. If you want a nice machete you gotta get one with a saw-back.
Great product however the description is misleading. Does not come with a lanyard as listed. If it did they forgot to give me one and fibbed when I asked about it.
Nice tool. Better than I expected. Nice suprise. Good sheath. I'd definetly buy it again. Only drawback. Needs to be sharpened, a little dull. "Can't shave with it."
First of all great machete but it wasn't very sharp and the handle wasn't very tight, but 5 mins after that it was the best machete I've ever picked up. If u have a screw driver and a sharpener it can be a great tool.
Don't let other reviews about the "best machete ever", or the "razor" sharpness of this product sway your decision. For 20 bucks it's a decent product. It came about as sharp as a bowling ball and took hours of stone work to put a decent edge on the blade. The saw works "ok", but the handle set-up for swinging, not sawing. If you have more than a couple of small limbs to saw off, your hand will be aching. The sheath has a cheap Velcro hold down that is difficult to operate with one hand. I wish it had a snap instead.
WOW! Very impressed. Tough Steel, great weight. Overall great machete. Only drawback handle seems a little loose, it moves a little when swinging. and it's a bit large. but $19, excellent value.
I fell in love with the price and the size of this brush annihilator the moment I saw it but, money was still tight. As a surprise my wife and kids got it for me for Fathers Day though. I was so excited I spent every moment of daylight the next day hacking and sawing and testing all of it's limits.Let me tell you neither one of us lost that test and it was extreme. Most machetes I have done this with get all loose, immediately dull, or the hand guard shatters or separates but this bad boy took it all and the saw did an excellent job also (very impressive!). Only had one complaint and it wasn't the machetes fault. The sheath supplied needs modification to the transition of the nylon body to the vinyl banding at the top area where the machete is pulled from.Within the first hour the saw back had hung up and pulled the threads loose in the area it passed leaving the other banding(blade side) not affected and still firmly in place. The result of this was every time I went to draw the machete the banding now hangs l
This is one mean tool for the price. I used it to slash through some mean thicket I have on my property. The length of the blade made sure I didn't have to get in there with all the thorns. Its got a great weight to it, not heavy enough to slow you down but enough heft to slash through some heavy brush. The only downside with this blade is I can't get a comfortable grip on the handle to use the sawback and the lanyard needed to be removed right away as it snags on anything. I used this for about three hours of straight hacking and the edge dulled out a bit on it but that was easily fixed. Out of all the stuff I bought on Budk I would say this is my most useful purchase.
I just recieved this machete in the mail. I went out to the brush to try it out. The handle is very comfortable, and I love the knuckleguard. I took the lanyard off. I know how to hold on to a machete. The sheath is works as expected.
My blade became bent after about 4 chops at a sago palm. Bummer, before that it was a really nice machete.
THIS IS A FINE MACHETE FOR CLEARING UP BUSHES AND SMALL LIMBS OF TREES. ITS A GOOD USE IF YOU'RE CLOSE TO SALTWATER. THE KIND OF BLADE IS VERY RESISTANT TO RUST. THE HANDLE IS RUBBER SOFT TO THE HAND AND CAN PREVENT FROM SLIPPING BUT THE HANDLE IS A DRAWBACK WHEN USING THE SAW BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT IN A GOOD POSITION ON THAT AWKWARD HANDLE. THE NYLON SHEATH IS GOOD BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH UNLESS YOU PUT SOME LINER INSIDE TO PROTECT THE SHEATH FROM THE SHARP TEETH OF THE BLADE. MY MACHETE WAS RESHARPENED TO ITS PROPER BEVEL TO ACHIEVE A RAZOR SHARP BLADE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. ITS A GOOD BUY FOR THE MONEY...
Excellent blade, sharp and very easy to swing but a little on the short side a few inches longer would be more to my liking( I have used a machete in trimming trees as a profession for 30 years) The unfortunate thing is the loose handle, I will have to break it off and replace it with a wood one. Easy enough to do but didn't think it would need it for a months at least.
This machete is decent. The only problem I have with it is the handle is loose and it makes a clicking noise when you swing it. There are three rows of plastic buttons covering the screws. I am still trying to get them off so I can tighten up the handle. All in all the machete has a great feel to it though.
I opted for this machete after I had ordered a BLACK LEGION GREEN KUKRI MACHETE. It seems it was out of stock at the time I ordered it so Budk offered to send me another type. I opted for this one. After reading some reviews here and on Amazon I am convinced I made a mistake. Reviews of breaking and warping blades and loosening handles are not difficult to locate. Maybe I will give this away to my stepson. One thing for certain, I would not trust this machete in a true survival situation. I still want the BLACK LEGION GREEN KUKRI MACHETE and I guess I will look for it here, hoping it comes back in stock. On a positive note, Budk has the best customer service I have ever encountered.
Worked amazing for awhile, however while cutting down a little tree smaller than the one in the video the blade snapped right in half perfectly, I mean can't expect too much for 20 bucks, it would be awesome to get one to replace this but then again don't wanna risk that happening again.. Overall would not buy again but was fun while it lasted.
We won't be able to ship this item until we receive more stock. But don't worry, we've found a similar item that's ready to ship now.
