This M48 Survival Spear from United Cutlery measures in at a whopping 44 1/8" from end to end, featuring a razor-sharp blade that is nearly half an inch thick! With a stainless steel blade this powerful, this spear was built for durability and strong use. Practical applications abound with this massive spear, including uses such as breaching, prying, and impaling practically anything.
Spear is legit. Great price. Wish they gave option for longer staff. I would pay extra for that. I have this home protection but I plan on using it for hiking, camping where you might bump into an animal.
The handle is a little thinner then I was expecting and I would like it to have been about a foot longer. (Pic is It next to a standard dowel used as a closet hanger.) Other then that, I love this bad boy. Now I am seriously considering other M48 items. Especially other pole arms because they are interchangeable so I could put this spear head on a longer shaft haha! Might even by another of these one day. That is if they are not discontinued and go on sale again. $50-$60 is an acceptable price. If you use this weapon appropriately you will love it too. It is not meant to be thrown at trees or thrust into railroad ties. In fact, unless you are a competent spear thrower, just don’t throw it. You will damage it. Also, it’s not an axe so don't swing it like one. And it’s not a knife either. This is for thrusting into fleshy targets. Some of these reviews are extreme cringe.
This spear fits in the molle on the back of my M48 tactical vest. I carry this into the woods with me for protection against coyotes and snakes. Of course if they somehow get past this spear then I’ve got two pistols. One in the vest holster and one in the M48 rigged drop leg holster. Which by the way if you don’t have the vest or drop leg holster you need to go buy them today! I recommend all 3 products, the spear, tactical vest, and drop leg holster!
I read many of these so-called reviews, and may I just say as an expert spearhunter, most of you are morons. This is not a weapon designed to slice, it's designed to penetrate (like a f*****g spear)! If you want a long polearm style weapon that can slice like a sword without breaking or bending etc. then buy a Japanese Naginata. Otherwise, this spear will perform excellently as described. Stop being dumb.
I bought this for myself and was great-threw it at pineapple an tree and works very well. but do not do what it is not designed for. My older son wanted to borrow it for a camping trip with himself and some buddies. Apparently this is not a axe because a overhead, downward thrust with two hands to cut threw a ham bone is to much for the handle it snapped off right below where the blade ends. I was very happy with the item, but use outside of its design can cause serious or death, if you are swing at a tree or pole and miss and hit the handle, which I did not know was able to just snap off under stress. Still loved the item, and trying to redesign into a knife or convert into a more sturdy spear handle.
This thing would be great for home protection in the event of a break in I feel sorry for how scared the intruders would look even with a gun in there hand I'll show no mercy with this in my hand I bought one I have to say great job bud k
This spear can be used like a hikking staff, good for defense its Light and good looking! I cut a cow's leg bone and poked a dead pig's head... So it can kill things. Its a short spear and is needed some training to adapt to its size
Hey there, all those whom are using this spear for what it is not designed should not own a weapon at all. This spear is awesome for piecing flesh and bone. It is also an awesome self defense weapon and can be used in confined spaces. So all of you idiots whom are flinging it into wood and metal you are really brain dead. Just saying
Bought this just because it looked Cool and I collect guns knives blades etc I've jabbed it into trees through microwaves dish washers and other household appliances along with plywood and some cheap furniture and the only complaint I have was the tip bent a little but I fixed that with a flat file very enjoyable product
This blade is awesome! I tore apart my archery target and was even able to throw it across the room and hit my mark!! Cut clean through the top of my shoe pulling it out of my target (accidentally of course) This is a serious weapon! Well built and sturdy and a definite recommend to friends!!
I bought it felt sturdy, but when I tried to cut some cutzoo vines, the blade not only got so dull but it developed nicks in the blade LIKE its the cheapest steel they found to make this spear,And it would never chop a block like it shows in the picture cause the spear would break an completely destroy the edges.
The M48 Survival Spear from United Cutlery is designed for survival, but earned it's weight in gold as a stalk hog hunters CQB weapon of choice. I am sure it would work great against zombies, yet to be tested by me, but for size, weight, and the strength in the design, you could take down a T-Rex. Bravo Zulu UC..
I really like this spear. It is designed as a combat and personal defense weapon and it is very good for those applications. It is not a hunting spear or garden tool, so don't use it for things it's not made for and you'll be happy with it. The handle appears quite sturdy but a little thin and slippery for me. Some sports tape wrapped around it at my hand contact points was a quick and easy fix. Personally, I think the length is just right for a combat weapon and allows for fast and fluid maneuvering. The spear head is a thick substantial steel piece and strongly made. Mine was very sharp out of the box, both at the point and along the edges too. It is a very effective and well made weapon for personal defense and I'm happy with the purchase.
I bought this short spear for the specific purpose of finishing downed game, if required. Good balance and perfect length for ending a hog hunt.
I bought this short spear for finishing downed animals while hog hunting. I can see straight out of the box that it will be ideal for the purpose intended.
I've wanted one of these survival spears for over a year, but I thought the price was too high. Bud-K offered a 15% discount on all merchandise, so I bought a spear at a good cheap price. I am NOT disappointed. Great quality at a great price.
and it doesn't claim to be. This it totally perfect as a personal defense weapon. It's the right size for most adults to wield against another human. If you train with staff weapons for fitness, then this is a great step up. the spear head has decent weight to it, but doesn't throw you off entirely so you can get adjusted to it. This is not a long Phalanx spear, stop downvoting it for that. Stop attacking trees with the tip and whining about it bending/breaking. it is not defective, your brain is. if you attack a tree, you will lose in one way or another unless you're using a chainsaw. It's a well balanced spear, and after wanting it for a few months and finally giving in, I'm a happy customer.
Great spear. I love it. Would like more length on the handle. 2 spears at this length single handed is quite a dangerous combo though.
I would only purchase this as a display piece. The steel in the blade is crappy soft stainless (there is a reason it's so thick, it's because it's crap). I have seen the point bend 90 degrees just from throwing it into soft white pine. The shaft is very flexible and weak and seems prone to breaking. For any kind of survival task, this blade is a terrible choice. It would not reliably cut, chop or split, and it won't even make a spark on most ferro rods. As am offensive or defensive weapon against soft fleshy people, I suppose this would work a few times. But if this is for your silly zombie fantasy, think again, this blade will bend or break on the first try to split a skull. This is advertized as a breaching tool as well and frankly, I don't think this would survive the attempt unless your breaching a homeless guys cardboard shelter. What a TERRIBLE product. I did give it two stars because it IS pretty cool looking if you are a mall ninja (like most M48 products, they look good, but don't hold up to real use).
When I opened my m48 spear I was maniacally laughing because I couldn't wait to take this baby outside and wreak havoc. It went seamlessly through milk jugs and aluminum cans, and was very easy to twirl around. Naturally, I then wanted to see its piercing power. I gathered an old railroad tie and gripped the spear firmly. Upon thrusting this instrument of doom into the wood, I noticed it was very difficult to pull it back out. When I retrieved it I noticed the tip of the spear folded and was rendered useless. I don't want to give up on this spear because I loved it up to that point, so I'm going to see if I can get a non-defective one.
Seriously, the video says 44 and one eight inch long. What kinda of size were you expecting dummy? The spear is perfect for what I thought I was getting. It's tough, durable, and above all deadly. My spear has not bent or broken, but a few objects its gone through are!!! Two thumbs up!!!
Product clearly states 44and1/8 overall length if everyone would finish reading before they buy nobody would be crying. Picture even shows guy holding butt of spear in right palm. That is a short spear. Exactly the one everyone got, short spear for good balance.
First of all....why all the comments on 'length'? The dimensions are clearly added in the ad. Yet all the complaints about how short it is. It's a tacticle tool....it's not supposed to be long. Also, comments about hunting use. It's not a hunting spear. It's not for Boar, or Deer. The comment from the 'Deer" slayer is just baloney. But anyone who really hunts Deer knows this. The handle is tough and will hold up. Maybe too thin for some, it's fixable. If it were thicker, their would be complaints about it being to thick. Mainly, it's strong, it's durable, and the proper length for defense. Any longer and it would be a hinderence in maneuvering. So...people, please....read the description in its entirety before complaining.
I bought this spear a while ago and it hasnt failed me yet. Very sturdy. This is of so much quality that i plan on buying the rest from this brand.
Once I got the box I was immediately disappointed in the spear. Sure, the spear head is a thick chunk of steal, but the staff length renders it hardly functional for anti-personnel or even wild game defense/hunting. Also, the shaft was too thin, I had to add custom grip with athletic tape to get the grip necessary to even train with it. I don't have he confidence that this spear would hold up if I really needed it. Worth maybe $39, definitely not the $69 I paid! Bummer too, because I was excited for this bad boy to be legit. Far from it :-(
awesome, just awesome, I got 2 now, and gave another as gift to friend...now he's in awe...lol
The spear head is fine, but I had to make my own handle. The one that comes with it is too short. And just a note: the guy dressed in all black is un -realistic. No one wears all that crap unless they are urban SWAT. Why is he parading around like that ? No doubt he is sweating bullets. FYI
I would have given it 5 staers but the Handle needs to be at least 60 inches long
Wish it was a little longer. It appears to be well made--haven't tested it yet. Will use it as a walking stick where I hike, because there are shady characters around sometimes that the spear would be good to be armed with.
I had been shopping around for spears for quite some time before finding this gem, The crap listed on amazon as "boar hunting spear"s Don't deserve the title in the slightest. The M48 On the other hand, Does. For starters the blade is a beauty right out of the box. Gave it a hell of a time (with the awesome price you can afford to beat it up) From Trees to sheet metal it took it all on and only sustained a bend on the very tip that I eventually sharpened back to normal. For throwing I'm having a hard time on targets past 9 feet away but with practice I'm sure that could change. All in all this spear is 100% worth the cash.
Great spear to have. i agree it isnt as long as most of us had expecter, and the sheath takes a bit of getting used to to get off. BUT it is a great piece to have, handles most cases...brought it out to the woods along with my black legion camping hatchet(also a really reliable piece) and took down a tree about 8-9 inches thick (mainly with the axe not so much the spear) but i had thrown it into quite a few trees, even some traffic cones. great item overall and worth the 70$
Despite what you might hear, this weapon is actually quite handy. It was a bit shorter than I expected, but still quite pleasing. The shaft is made of heavy duty, light weight plastic. The broadhead is perfectly balanced and extremely sharp. **NOTE*** THIS WEAPON IS AWESOME FOR THROWING IT HAS PERFECT BALANCE I WENT HUNTING AND PIERCED A DEER THROUGH THE LUNG WITH THIS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT
omg this spear is ever thing i expected an so much more straight out of the box i stabbed the side of my truck bed it went half way in like butter i have tested it just around the yard so far cant wait to take it in the field wow what a spear
this spear is epic. it effortlessly penetrates any target i put in front of it including pop cans and a inch thick piece of particle board several trees and tree stumps . i also have used this hog hunting and its pretty good as a back up. my only gripe though is its a little short im a 6'3" tall guy and this thing is about four foot long. all im saying is make it two foot longer. or at least make a shaft in a longer length. i also wrapped the shaft in the middle with some good old fashioned 550 cord. if your wanting something to just toss around then BUY THIS SPEAR!!!
nice idea,But its cheap, will not take a EDGE,not big enough or wide enough,IM very disappointed,Lost that $80.00,I could bought a shinwa an been happier.
I have to say It works well for stabbing and piercing, but nor for prying or throwing. I wish the shaft was metal, it's not heavy enough to have a good straight arc when I'm throwing. Maybe I'm just used to having something heavier...
I'm 6'1", 215, and this M48 Survival Spear is a perfect addition to my collection. If it were any longer the balance would shift to the front and make it uncontrollable. It's the perfect size for it's balance. It's sturdy and I found the blade to be extremely sharp and durable. No, it's not meant for throwing into concrete but the wood and trees I threw it were peneatrated easily without any damage to the spear. For the price, workmanship and reliability of the product line...you can't do any better!
I just got my M48 Talon Survival Spear today via UPS. It came very fast and I have to say I am impressed! It is Very sturdy & has a thick razor sharp blade. People have had problems with the size but I think it is great & would be more effective for tactical use. I now own 3 M48 products and I am very pleased with them all and I plan to get more. These are great tools/weapons and a perfect addition to ones bug-out-bag!
Very impressed with both this spear and its hammer brother. The spear head is SOLID. The edge is decent, but this thing is definitely durable. I wouldnt hesitate to use it to pry open a door if I had to, provided I could get the thicker part of the blade head (and this this is nearly 1" thick) into the jamb.
I'm an avid collector and have quite a few M-48 "Hawk" series items in my collections. The M-48 "Hawk" axe or tomahawk I give out of 5 stars a 9.98 star rating. I bought two of those M-48 Tomahawk axes for their top quality. Since then I've bought many accessory items with the M-48 logo for their quality and this spear is NEXT on my list since it should have the same M-48 quality then I'll be very happy. I'll buy one and if\since the quality should be there then I'll end up buying a second one to make it a set like I did with the tomahawk axe. I'm looking forward to getting the first one delivered at my door and plan to start the new year off with it being my first order for the year. The M-48 quality to me stands for Top Quality. ;)
The spear head is poorly made where if one does anything just a little tough the spear will bend, If you are thinking about buying this spear I do not suggest it, put put it through one throw into a normal wooden target and it bent out of control.
When is first opened this spear it was everything I was expecting! I would recommend this to anyone that was thinking about it! If you are going to get this though you must keep it sharp or else the blade starts to get jagged. All in all a great weapon.
this spear is both solid and light weight. the perfect length for cqd. will make an excellent zombie killer. highly recommended
Definitely too short for a guy my size (6', 220lb); recommend different lengths to accommodate different people. Very well made weapon, overall. A permanent part of my SHTF bag.
this spear is amazing but needs to be about a foot or so longer.good blade and a strong shaft and a needle sharp point its awesome to throw a stuff cause it always sticks.would i recommend this to a friend yes but i like the novelty of being the only one who owns one where i live.
This item is top quality. It has taken everything I could put it through with ease and flair. I see some complain about the length of the shaft, and I could not think they were more wrong. If you're in close quarters, a cramped room or hallway, or closely grow trees or shrubs, you don't want a lengthy shaft knocking around behind you and getting tangled or jammed in god knows what should you have to use it for defense. If you're looking for something to plant against a knight on horseback charging down of you, you're looking at the wrong item. This is a tactical item, not medieval fantasy weapon. I keep this as part of my "SHTF Kit" and have made a carry rig, as I am too tall to use the handgrip as a walking cane adequately, for when I go hiking. Would certainly recommend to others.
Top quality short spear. Great for protection against animals such as dogs and forest critters. Great for survival spearing fish is creeks and shallow rivers. It's light, strong, and easy to use. Spear head is sharp and heavy duty and the shaft is very durable. Over all an excellent tool/weapon.
this is an awesome spear i just wish it was about a foot longer then and only then will you have the perfect spear, thats the only flaw i can point out, everything else about this spear is awesome, if you offered an extension that could be bolted on or a sleeve that is made out of the same material that could be connected somehow that would add another foot or 2, i would pay for that option, if you guys dont come up with something like that, i will
This spear is way to short to be a useful/practical spear. The only thing going for this spear is the actual spear head. The spear head is very well made and super thick. The spear shaft is not even close to being strait, so this will not throw well. I am 5' 8" tall and this spear is still too small for me to use as a walking stick/cane. If your buying this for that purpose, look elsewhere, this m48 spear will only work as a walking stick/cane if your a hobbit! I bought it for that purpose and now it will sit on the wall!
I am going to get this for my GF to keep in the house when I am out of town because she is uncomfortable operating my handguns when under stress. This weapon will create distance and also be lethal if needed at the same time. Editor's Note: Thank you for your comments. We have removed a portion of the review which does not comply with our review guidelines.
Unbelieveably awesome weapon. Love messing around with it. Recently spears were cleared for hunting so I've been practicing like crazy. Can't wait to see what it does in the field!
I bought this spear for my g/f's father since he's a big knife collecter. So what do you get the guy who as almost every knife? A near 5-foot razor sharp spear!!! This thing is freakin' awesome to say the least. I'm gonna pick one up for me someday soon as well.
I am a big M48 fan, the gear can hold up to just about anything, and the spear stays true to that fact, its increadably rugged, i only wish that it was a little longer.
This is a very well made tool. Attention to detail in materials, design, and construction. Well balanced with a handle design that will allow the use as a hiking staff. The handle is a little bit short for me to use as hiking staff, I am six foot one inch. The blade is heavy duty. I really like this Tool.
very lightweight but durable. I don't think I'll ever break it and I'm rough with it. Would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about buying one. M48 makes very durable yet lightweight weapons, I plan on buying all M48's items
I HAVE PURCHASED MANY ITEMS FROM KENNESAW, AND SO FAR I LOVE THEM ALL 5 *****. THEN I ENTER THEIR DRAWING FOR THEIR M48 KOMMANDO TALON SURVIVAL SPEAR, AND TO MY SURPRISE I WON IT. AND I NEVER WIN ANYTHING, BUT I DID AND THEY WERE EVERY HELPFUL IN SENDING IT TO ME FREE OF CHARGE. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THIS IS ONE GREAT SPEAR BUT IT WOULD BE BETTER IF THE HANDLE WAS A LITTLE BIGGER AROUND AND ABOUT 18" LONGER. PS GREAT JOB GUYS.
the spear is great. very strong almost 1/2 inch blade is razor sharp. awasome weapon for close combat. i hope to get the m48 axe next.
This is just what I hoped it would be. Good weight and length unless you want a walking stick. Another foot or two longer might be nice but the weight will go up at the blade and slow movement down so I like it the way it is (for now). The blade was sharp and like most blades will dull very fast if it sticks in the ground a few times but sharpened pretty easily. The sheath fits very well and won't just fall off, in fact if you flip the release and try to throw it off it takes a lot to come off. Now which light or laser will mount to this thing?
this spear is amazing.the blade is solidly attached to the shaft.and this thing is sharp right out of the box. my only regret is that i dint buy a second one.while this thing isn't meant to be thrown because of the fact that most of the weight is in the head. this thing is however great for melee combat.thanks budk i will definitely come back for more.
this thing is great!! I own the M48 spear, warhammer, axe, harpoon and shovel and I love them all the spear Could be longer but still awesome only thing else is the handles need to be cord wrapped because the grooves in the shafts/handles hurt if you swing like you mean it simple fix though my whole family want the M48 line of products now that they've seen mine lol
The M48 spear is a well constucted weapon. I will be ideal for my hog hunting. The 8 inch blade is thick enough that I dont have to worry about it breaking. The tip is sharp enough that it should penatrate the hog hide. Looking forward to a hunting trip now.
This is a great product, and is functional. The staff is well built the blade keeps a good edge and is thick and durable. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because I wish it was longer to double as a Walkingstick/spear. I like to hike and I think this product would be a excellent Walkingstick/Spear for Protection against large animals
Just my luck! From reading the other reviews I must have received the only one that missed getting sharpen at the factory. But other than that seems to be a pretty well made spear. I do wish that you could buy more handles of different lengths so you you custom set it up for whatever you needed it for at the time. Dan
This is easily one of the best items in my collection of weapons. The blade is incredible sharpe! I really love it!
Man this thing is great. The blade is extra thick and sharp. The handle is very rugged. I have to agree with everyone else. I wish it was a foot longer. But other than that, well worth the money.
This spear is almost perfect, the one thing I would change is make the handle one foot longer so it could be used as a walking stick.
This is a awesome product. I am very impressed with the durability of the staff and blade. If I could make one suggestion is that the staff could be longer so that it could double as a walking stick and survival spear.
This is awesome, I purchased one for my son as a Gift and I have to have another. Solid, looks awesome and is designed well! Thanks BudK
Awesome spear haven't used it on anything yet, but tip is extremely sharp, strong and sturdy structure, the blade is way thicker than i thought.
I bought the M-48 Hawk and am going to buy this spear too but I'm going to add an extension to the spear by drilling a hole in the end after removing that 1/2 inch smaller section and inserting a threaded fitting and getting a comparably sized piece of poly rod and drilling a hole in that end and inserting a bolt in the end and epoxy the pieces in so I can screw and unscrew the pieces together when I want a longer spear for throwing. Similar to a cane that can be unscrewed into 3 pieces, except this will only be two pieces.Hope this gives some people some ideas to lengthen their spears.
This was made for self defense. Mine will be used and practiced with for no other purpose. Sharp, lethal, it will supplement my other self defense skills and is clearly will designed for the job.
It has a very solid feel to it, the tip is very sharp and a very capable weapon overall. I think this would be my go-to weapon if I was in a survival situation.
This spear is absolutely amazing!!! a little shorter then I expected but it is still incredible. It came extremely sharp and the sheath is really nice. Great buy!!!
This thing is AWESOME!!! I give it a 5 star the sheath is a hard to get on and get off cause the spear is so sharp im afraid it will. Cut it, but HEY that SHOULD NOT turn u off about this spear. This thing has NO flaws if u know how to use a spear, URGGHHHHHHH WEN i opened the box i wanted to vomit RAINBOWS CAUSE IF HOW AWESOME THIS THING WAS.
This is a GREAT weapon!!the blade is sharp, thick, and long enough to do major damage. its heavier than it looks so throwing takes some practice.the ONLY thing wrong with it is the handle is a foot too short to use as a walking staff. All my friends want one now.
I make knives and other primitive weapons as a hobby, and I can tell you this is a beautifully crafted weapon, both in it's lines and function.
It's a great spear! worth every buck. i just wished that you can tie the spear with a paracord for easy retrieval. spear is very sturdy. i already have the m48 axe. thinking of buying the long m48 axe. i've been buying from budk for years and always happy with the deals.
Hey Awesome Spear for the money. I was wondering since you guys do great video's could you put one up for "THE BEST WAY TO THROW THIS BEASTY SPEAR" Anyway great product LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!
I can't give this 5 stars because it does have some drawbacks. However a great little weapon. I buy things for one reason only - hand to hand in an emergency. The Blade ROCKS, but sheath not so good. DO NOT use this as a walking stick, I am 5'9" and have to lean to get a grip below the blade. If you trip and fall, you risk impaling yourself - seriously! The handle is a little thin and it would have been better to give it a thicker handle to hold comfortably. It would clearly block a Arnis stick, etc, but not sure it would hold up against a baseball bat. It is just a bit longer overall than my Katana, but offers the ability to choke up for CQC and yet can still be swung in a sword-like manner. I would never throw it - Not a hunter and any weapon thrown is a lost weapon. A little head heavy, but I am sure training with it regularly will open a world of skills. It is very similar to the short Assegai and I opted for this because I got the sense the blade would be very solid and it is. I can't give a durability review because I won't risk it on that stuff - I have it for one purpose only. Also, I would never use this for a pry bar, not sure why they would put that in the description. Absolutely recommend it - razor sharp and will take care of business. I will buy another one (or more) at some point and will collect a lot of the M48 stuff and Honshu line.
i have put the spear through a lot and its surprising how tough it is i got the m-48 tommahawk and really tedted its durability, so far all the m-48 weapons are worth the money.
I have a few of the M48 line of suvival gear and could'nt ask for anything better. Needed to get it before New York(new dorks) band them.
This spear is serious business. Even straight out of the package the blade is sharp enough to do a lot of damage. The shaft is very solid and could deliver very damaging blows by itself without the spearhead. This is a top-notch purchase for the price. Well worth the investment as a self or home defense weapon.
This spear has a hefty weight to it. It's all centered closer to the blade. The blade itself is as thick as the spear shaft and the tang travels about 3 to 4 inches down the shaft, securely bolted by three screws (that are flush with the shaft)

By first reaction was "Freaking awesome!" And I took it outside and started stabbing trees. To my dismay, it can't handle much hard stabbing before the tip begins to bend in so the steel isn't as hardened as it could be for a spear, but I digress. Spear tips are the most dangerous point of the spear and the weakest point at the same time. It is easily hammered back in place and if any of the blade becomes chipped? You can simply sharpen away until there are no more imperfections.

I would definitely recommend this spear to any one of my friends. I recommend this spear to you who are reading this.
Hands down the best money I've spent at true swords. The picture does not even come close to giving justice. Very sturdy construction. Very heavy, very very thick blade. This is a serious weapon. Top notch. Highly recommended.
Dependable due to its stout and hearty design. Definitely a survival item one can count on when needed.
When I first held it i was skeptical about what could be done with it. After a few weeks of playing with it WOW is what comes to mind! Nice Balanced, good edge and durable. Martial artists may use it similar to a Jo Staff due to it's size. Easy to throw and very light weight and sturdy. Well worth the money for anyone adding to a practical addition to their collection! Way to Go BudK! Way to Go United Cutlery!
Great spear one of the sharpest blades I have. The only thing I really wish they would make this weapon longer it was too short but it was still great.
The pictures had me a bit worried about the blade, but upon recieving this today along with the Tactical Hammer. I have to say the spear blade is much better than that pic, great quality. It would be better with a bit of counter weight being that the shaft is short but not really a complaint just an observation. A great buy I recommend.
I'm a very big collector of the M48 Series...in fact I think I own every product m48 has to offer...if you are in the market for a spear then this is the spear for you...mine is not Sharp on the blade edge...but the tip is super sharp...the spear is designed just like the axe and hammer...and is balanced real well...if you are going to get one don't wait just get it and you will be very happy....
Comes sharp enough. well balanced for throwing. Blade cover is thick enough but might wear though if abused. It is an awesome spear for self defense or for show time.
Awesome Spear. Well Balanced. Using it to practice Kung Fu spear set, but a little short. Hope you can make a full length version for optimum Zombie damage and carnage. Would also like to see a halbert with single and double edged versions. Or how about a version were you can change out the weapon end hammer to spear to sword to ax to trident to etc.).
Essentially, anything from M48 Kommando is well worth the money. The spear in question is well made, has excellent balance and is weighted with comfort. Mine came as sharp as anticipated. An overall great weapon. With enough practice, it can even be thrown with great effect.
Very impressed with this spear...didn't take much to bring it to a razor edege !!! I'm sure this spear will work well in any combat situation !!!
m-48 products are well made tools, now im waiting for the new m-48 hawk short combat sword! hint hint>
I now am the owner of all four(ax long and short, spear, hammer) and they are very well made.they will deffentley help to keep the zombe's off your rear end, they will make your servisl much easyer.
When I first saw this spear I knew I had to own it. Also needed to own one for a close friend so I bought two of them. It is everything I hoped it would be. I do primitive camping a lot and always take a pistol for protection. Now I would not have a problem with only taking this. Needed a bit of sharpening to be where I wanted it but that was easy. I am extremely satisfied. 5 big stars.
I normally do not write posts but the M48 Survival Spear deserves high praise. I highly recommend this to anyone weather for show or defense, This spear is very durable and a must have. I would also recommend it as a gift for anyone that collects any type of weapon, most honestly one of the best weapons I ever bought online.
Just by looking at this i can tell it is amazing.just by throwing it at an oak tree it stuck and it took about 5 minuts to get it out.im defenitly using this in the zombie apocalypse.
Great product. Excellent weight & length.. Blade is incredible. Could be a bit sharper. The sheath is also quite nice, although over time the blade may wear its way through. I should have purchased 2! Highly recommend you order one for yourself! Overall it definitely gets 5 stars.
The blade was twice a thick as I expected (made me very happy). It has great weight and will make for an amazing addition to my Zombie Hunter Pack. Even better, the lenth makes it managable in a hallway. I checked the price on United Cutlery web page and your have it for half the price. Thank you and keep up the good work!
I definitely like this spear. For those not wishing to own a firearm, this spear would make a better home-defense tool than a bat. I'm sure criminals would "get the point" about leaving you alone! United Cutlery also makes a M48 Kommando axe with similar dimensions to this spear. They need to combine the two into a walking stick/halberd with the same length as the spear! That would be amazing!
I've always been a big fan of, and collector/builder of different types of spears (perhaps i'm compensating for something). I'm diggin' this one! It's reminiscent of some of the African shorter spears like the Assegai and Iklwa Spears, but with a more "tactical" design. In the Realm of Zombie Killin', this will fit the bill for sure! Lightweight, Compact, and a bit headheavy, which is a good thing. The blade is nice and thick, very sharp. The Grooves on the shaft work perfectly for close combat applications. I'm not really sure how sturdy/safe the rubber sheath will be. I'm thinking Kydex might be better. I may build a custom sheath that incorporates an integral Cane Handle all in one piece. But if you dig Spears like I do, you can't go wrong with this puppy!
I received my spear today and was extremely satisfied. The only thing that I would like is an extra few inches in length for the handle (I am fairly tall and have to hold onto the blade to use it as a walking stick, plus my spear style works better with a 5 foot spear) but other then that, excellent build for a great price.
I've been a member for yrs. and have merchandise That non-members have viewed and from that they Have placed orders thus this speaks for itself ! They produce great items, well made that you will enjoy service from.
This item is just as sturdy as all the other m48 products. They are all quality and very durable. Worth the price. I plan on collecting all these products because they all look nice and are well made and worth having. I wish the axe and hammer heads were a little larger though. Maybe united will make that happen later. I would buy those too
I just received my m48 survival spear today and it is awesome. The blade is much more massive then i was expecting. Im guessing you could take down a bear if you had to with this thing. Its very sharp not quite razor sharp but sharp enough. The whole thing is very well made and would definitely recommend it to anyone. I was unsure about buying this weapon at first because i was unsure if it would really be useful as protection in the wild but i would trust this spear to help me take down a bear or mountain lion if ever needed also good for a walking stick and i spend alot of time hiking in the mountains.
This spear is amazing. The blade is huge and sturdy.GET THIS SPEAR. It is amazing and for the price you can't beat it.
First of all, this spear is amazing. The end of it perfectly round, and amazing for penetration. The length of the spear is amazing, and it can be crammed very far into your "target". I love this spear so much. So. Much.
I recently received the m48 Hawk and Karambits and they insanely sturdy and sharp right out of box(I should know I sliced my finger open with the Karambit on the first time I pulled it out of the sheath ha!). Long story short, if they are so Intensly awesome AND usefull, this monster has to raise the bar by what I can tell. I haven't received it yet but will update when it shipped, will torture test of course.
We won't be able to ship this item until we receive more stock. But don't worry, we've found a similar item that's ready to ship now.
