The massive two-handed great sword was an important weapon on the late medieval battlefield. Often linked to accounts where soldiers armed with great swords broke through lines of pikemen, this weapon was highly effective in the hands of soldiers of large stature and physical strength. This reproduction measures 55 1/4" overall in length, and features a 39 7/8" blade of 1055 carbon steel. The blade includes parrying hooks and leather wrapped ricasso to allow the wielder to shorten the grip and use the sword as a polearm to repel cavalry. The handle is made of wood and covered with leather to afford a full two handed grip. The heavy steel pommel helps to balance the sword and can serve as an effective bludgeon in its own right. This is a tremendous item to add to any historical collection. Cold Steel, 88WGS.

This is the biggest piece of good-quality carbon steel you can buy for the price. The blade is very sturdy and well-made. However, be forewarned that for some reason True Swords sends these unsharpened- mine came blunt as a bludgeon. They are also EXTREMELY difficult to sharpen; I've tried everything from whetstones to the AccuSharp that works well for most other Western-style blades, and not a single thing I've done has been able to put an edge on this sword. From reading other reviews I note that some people do seem to have received theirs sharp; I don't understand why some are sharpened and others are not, but I strongly recommend prospective buyers not to purchase this unless you can be sure it comes presharpened.

I got this in yesterday, and I must say I am impressed with the workmanship. It is a beuatiful blade, fairly sharp (watch out for the parring hook tips, they're the sharpest point) and the stich job for the leather is hidden on the side, not plain out in the center of the flat.
It is a very sturdy blade, and the balance is very good. the scabbard it comes with is a fine peice of workmanship as well, and could almost be its own weapon. This sword is definately the centerpeice of my collection now.

Alright I just got this sword today and I most say that I freakin love it. This sword is huge the pictures do not do it justice. It is the first sword I have ever owned and Iam very satisfid with my choice. I only have one small compaint it did not come sharpened but other then that I could not be happier with my purches. True Swords did an amazing job packaging the sword and it was a great plus that it came with the scabbadrd. Thanks True Swords. you now have a new fan. I will be ordering from you guys again real soon.

I am sighing as I sit here at work thinking about this Uber gorgeous Landsknecht style blade that is now at home, waiting for me to wield it. It is extremely lively for something it's size, and surprisingly easy to handle. My fiance was toying with it earlier, which was hot, but she even said with some practice, it'd be something she could handle after a while. It is balanced to be user friendly for those who know how it should be used. It arrived faster than expected, in perfect condition. Customer service was excellent. Ladies and gentleman, if you are looking for a wall center piece that can actually be used, this is it. Price is much less than Cold Steel, comes with the scabbard. Compared to other blades of similar design, this mimics earlier versions of Landsknecht weaponry: Not too much ornamentation, all about business. Even those of you in love with Katanas and other Japanese blades would admire this hulking brutes subtle elegance.

An incredible weapon. Feels great in the hands. Everything about it is solid. I looked around quite a bit before deciding to purchase - and I was not disappointed. It is big, beautiful, and has quite the edge on it for such a large blade. Be aware - this is not a purely display item nor a toy. It already "bit" me once!

    It demands respect.

    Highly recommended.

This is my new favorite. For something so massive, it's very balanced and it feels great in your hands.

Why I love this blade so much though, is its versatility. You can weild it like a traditional sword, you can grab the part of the blade covered in leather for quicker swings and stabs, or grab the rings coming out of the guard for a completely different way to weild a sword.

The parrying spikes are extremely sharp and makes this gargantuan blade even more intimidating.

This quality sword is definately a buy, and you won't find this (with an MSRP of $550) at a better price than at
